About the Craft
Human-made, beautifully imperfect.
Each saree is individually handcrafted, not machine-produced. Slight variations in colour, print placement, block impressions or tiny irregularities are a natural part of the process. These are not flaws—they are the signature of the artisan’s hand, making every saree subtly different and truly one of a kind.
How Ajrak / Hand Block Fabric Is Made
Ajrak is a centuries-old South Asian textile tradition built around meticulous hand block printing. The fabric is prepared and then printed by artisans using individually carved wooden blocks. Each motif is stamped onto the cloth by hand, one impression at a time, with careful alignment to gradually build the overall pattern.
Traditional Ajrak can involve repeated stages of washing, resist printing, dyeing and drying, depending on the technique and design. More contemporary Ajrak-inspired block printing may use a simplified process while preserving the defining character of hand-carved blocks and manual printing.
Because the pressure, placement and absorption of every impression can vary slightly, no two pieces are perfectly identical—and that human touch is exactly what makes handcrafted textiles so special.
Human-made. Hand-blocked. Beautifully imperfect. Uniquely yours.
